Our Ministry To Children
We will follow the example of Jesus in welcoming children into the life of our church:
“Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’ When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.” (Matthew 19:13-15)
- We, as a congregation, will take our responsibility seriously in regard to nurturing our children in the Christian life. Thus, we will support our Sunday School and Christian Education programs and pray for the teachers and students regularly. We will pray that God will raise up more volunteers to help educate and nurture the children in our church and community.
- We will be faithful in teaching the Bible to our children, encouraging all of our teachers to effectively present the truths in scripture. Our desire is that each teacher will recognize the high calling of their service and fulfill the mandate given to us in scripture: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth”.
- We will treat each child with respect and dignity–regardless of race, sex, socio-economic status, or disability (whether that be physical, mental, or emotional disability).
- We will pray for the children’s parents and families and pray that God might use the children’s enthusiasm to bring the rest of their families to faith in Christ (for those who are not already a part of God’s family). We will never penalize a child because of their parents lack of responsibility or commitment to the church; rather we will love and support them to the best of our ability.
- We will encourage the children to be respectful in church and actively participate in the worship services. We will try to provide age appropriate opportunities in worship, which will enable them to worship and praise God in a meaningful way.
- We will pray that our ministry to the children might have eternal significance – that as they commit themselves to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, they might have the assurance that their sins are forgiven and that they will inherit eternal life. We pray that the children will then be missionaries to their own families and communities, sharing with everybody the good news of Jesus Christ!
