Outdoor Adventure with Soul

What is it?

Outbound is an outdoor adventure program designed with spiritual formation in mind. We seek to support young people in grades 6-12 in building a connection with themselves, each other and God through outdoor adventure. This is a place for youth to belong in a positive, supportive community that fosters a growing sense of self as a treasured person made in God’s image.

Outbound is for 6th-12th graders.

Details:

Adventures: Each month Outbound embarks on an adventure designed to build our sense of connection with each other and explore the beauty of Sonoma. Adventures are a great entry point for youth wanting to get to know what  Outbound is all about and meet other youth!

Spring 2025 Adventures:

  • January 11 – Cooking
  • January31-Feb 2 – Winter Retreat to Alliance Redwoods
  • March 8 – Archery
  • April 26 – Hiking at Tennessee Valley Beach Trail
  • May 18 – End of Year Party at the Monson Ranch

Basecamp: On the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month (September – May), youth and adult leaders gather for games, faith formation, and community building.

Campfire Groups: Small conversation-based groups for youth wanting a deeper dive into their walk with Jesus. Conversations include developing our theological lenses for navigating our everyday contexts, engaging with the Biblical story, studying scripture, and looking at real life topics relatable to today’s teenagers.

Retreats: Outbound embarks on a Kickoff Camping Retreat each August for all youth grades 7-12. We then have a High School Retreat in late Fall and a Middle School Retreat in early Spring. The Middle and High School Retreats give youth an opportunity to sabbath, play, and commune together while learning about a specific faith-related theme, while the Kickoff Retreat is more about nurturing relationships between youth and celebrating the start of a new Outbound year.

Capstone:

Each summer, Outbound youth go on a Capstone trip. This trip features a service-learning component, as well as some outdoor adventure. Capstone is designed to help youth reflect on the past year of their faith journey, connect with each other and what’s real, and be active  participants in God’s restorative work in the world. The Capstone Trip is open to youth who have been active in Outbound throughout the year.

**SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE to those students who may not be able to make the full financial commitment for trips and retreats. To learn more about these opportunities, please reach out to Hannah.***
